Vase
Uranium glass, blown, cut, carved, signed Klein 2017, height 15 cm, diameter 18 cm (Zí)
The work is from the author’s studio.
After graduating from the Glassmaking Secondary School in Kamenický Šenov, he began studying in Stanislav Libenský’s studio in Prague in 1969. After graduation, he became a teacher and then Director of the school in Kamenický Šenov, where he had previously studied. Next to his work as a teacher, Vladimír Klein is also a designer (Kavalier Sázava, Crystalex Nový Bor) and a freelance artist. He achieved his first success for his intimate sculptures out of optical glass, which were characterized by soft, organic shapes. The author’s four-year stay in Toyama, Japan, where he was a visiting professor, was a significant inspiration. After he returned, he worked primarily with the technique of fused sculpture, which he then worked over with a chisel and sander. This is how he achieved his characteristic shell-like chips of glass, contrasting with the polished surfaces.
